Palm Sunday
|
|
"Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, which finishes on Easter Sunday. On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem. He was greeted as a king and people waved palm leaves as they marched with Him through the streets. As Jesus came near to the city of Jerusalem He sent two of His followers on ahead, telling them where to find a donkey. When they got to Jerusalem Jesus rode in on the donkey. There was a big crowd in the city. Some put their cloaks on the floor in His path, others cut palm branches from the trees. They shouted, 'Hosanna to the Son of David, the King of Israel'. Jesus was welcomed as the Messiah - the Saviour of the people. But within a week the same people were calling for His death. Christians believe that when Jesus entered Jerusalem He knew that He was going to die and that this was the price He had to pay for people's sin. So He WAS the Messiah because His death saved people from their sins and offered them new life in Christ.
