Creative Writing
We split our story into paragraphs and colour coded each paragraph so we knew which was the beginning, middle and end. The first paragraph had to describe the scene, without introducing any characters and it was colour-coded orange.

The second paragraph was colour-coded blue and we were allowed to introduce our character, although we were told it was better to keep it down to one. We had to keep the description flowing in this second paragraph and we couldn’t make the event that was happening too big or complicated, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to finish off the story in the final paragraph. The last paragraph was colour-coded yellow and this is where we had to finish off the story and not leave anything unsaid.

I really enjoyed writing a story this way because it helped me to understand how it is done. I hope you enjoyed the result!

Out of the Blue
The salty water glistened in the morning sunlight, like diamonds sparkling on a necklace. Suddenly the waves swirled around the ocean, crashing against the rocks producing mountains of foam as something from deep down below disturbed the calm of the sea.

A large, adult silky dolphin leapt from underneath the waves and into the air arching its back and lashing its tail as it dived back into the clear blue water. There was silence. Then the earth started to shake. Fish darted in all directions looking for shelter as they knew something dramatic was about to happen.

The surface broke and one baby and one adult dolphin burst out of the water like a volcano erupting. They made synchronized patterns in the water and air, as mesmerising to watch, as a firework display. Moments later, there was a loud bang. As quick as a flash, the dolphins stopped dead and dived back into the water. There was a deadly silence, and they were gone.

Everything Goes Black
There was a soft whooshing sound as the waves licked the caster sugar sand on the empty beach. The wind blew some small rocks off the edge of the cliff. I lay there, thinking I could stay there forever. The sun bounced off the fluffy clouds and shone everywhere. I rested for a while.

Then- oh, no! Guess who came bouncing up the shimmering sand straight below me? Yapping his little head off, my sweet, tiny friend bounced happily towards me. Up the mossy cliff he climbed to reach me on the high cliff.

Gathering all his speed to get to me he charged, just wanting to crawl into my arms, cuddle up and sleep. He was bounding closer, and I grew scared. He was running at such a speed he was going to knock me off the cliff!

As he charged closer and closer I shook more violently. He was going to knock me off the cliff! As he flew into my arms I lost my balance and fell! I bounced down the cliff hitting the rocks and finally with blood pouring down my face I hit the bottom and everything went black.
