The Imperial War Museum Visit
LIII by the sounds of it had a marvellous time.
Once upon a time, well actually last week,
34 little girls all mild and meek,
went on a trip.

On the 9th of Jan., 2004
The War Museum was what they saw.
On the trip.

The coach bumped and jumped and wiggled and jiggled;
34 little girls started to fiddle,
on the trip.

When they got there, a surprise they found,
Old buses, tanks and planes all around,
On the trip.

Trenches from the First World War,
Became more interesting, the more they saw.
On the trip.

The trenches were rotten, the trenches were smelly;
Everyone screamed, especially Ellie.
On the trip.

Six little girls sat in the dark air raid shelter;
The bombs came down all helter, skelter;
On the trip.

They started their worksheets – what a bore!
Do they really have to do this chore?
On the trip.

The Blitz Experience was so real,
Everyone there started to squeal.
On the trip.

The Blitz Experience was smoky and cold;
They did their best to be very bold.
On the trip.

The 1940’s house looked so grim;
Even the lights were very dim.
On the trip.

Lunch they had – yum, yum, wahoo!
Crisps all around, sandwiches too.
On the trip.

The submarine was such fun
Learning how the job was done.
On the trip.

They took a visit to the shops,
It was full of aeroplanes, cards and tops.
On the trip.

The gift shop was full of goodies galore,
34 little girls spent more and more.
On the trip.

Women at War – taking men’s place,
Had to abandon their beauty and grace.
On the trip.

They were working and toiling – it wasn’t quite fair;
They didn’t have time to do up their hair (stand and stare)
On the trip.

The women were noble and brave;
Everything they tried to protect and save.
On the trip.

34 little girls were getting tired; no escape was in sight;
Transport and clothes - to the left and to the right.
On the trip.

Please, they just want to get homeward bound;
The journey home was without a sound.
On the trip.

On the bus a head count was done,
The fun was over, before it was begun.
On the trip.

Now they were back, they thought their job was done;
But not to be so, when a recount was to come.
After the trip.

They wrote a recount about the trip;
You’re reading it now - this is it!
After the trip.
