The Life Education Roadshow
Thoughts on the Life Education Roadshow by UII
On Friday, 23rd January, UIIM went to a session called Life Education. We did not know what to expect and when we arrived at the mobile unit we met Mark who was to teach us. First, he showed us the dummy called Tammy whose insides you could see. Then we were shown what Tammy’s different body parts were called. When we had finished talking about the brain, we were shown a video about the digestive, nervous, circulation and respiratory systems.

We then talked about the nicotine in cigarettes and alcohol. We watched another video on drugs and at the end of it we talked about our opinions on drugs and what harm they could do to the body if not prescribed by the doctor. We then listened to a short tape about how someone called Kathy was being forced to smoke by her friends. Then we acted it out to find out how hard it is to say ‘no’ to friends, and if we were ever in that position, what we should do. We were then asked if it was now possible for us to say ‘no’ to them and we all said ‘yes’.

I really enjoyed Life Education and hope they will come again.

Younger classes experienced a similar session but issues were covered at their level of understanding. Everyone learnt how important it was to keep our wonderful bodies fit and healthy.
