This month in "Where We are in the World", we go to Lithuania where we are introduced to this small but beautiful country at the Eastern end of the Baltic Sea by the students from Pajurio who conducted interviews with older Lithuanians who live in Klaipeda.
Where We Are In The World
The Republic of Lithuania lies on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea, in north central Europe, Lithuania has an area of 65,200 sq. km.(25,165 square miles). Lithuania is slightly smaller than Denmark. The low-lying coastal area along the Baltic Coast is known as the Pajurio Lowland. It is from this region our stories come.

AMBER COAST
by sj (13)

I live in a very small country Lithuania in the centre of Europe. The town I was born and live is Klaipeda. It's not a big town but attractive one. Klaipeda is washed by the Baltic sea. It has picturesque coastline with white sandy beaches and pine land around. I live in the southern part of Klaipeda. There are wide avenues and streets with modern houses. But I enjoy walking along narrow quiet courts and side streets with ancient historical buildings. More >

An Emerald Land Keeping Gold Treasure
by Alex (17)

The name of my native country is Lithuania. Many Lithuanians call it "an emerald land keeping a gold treasure". I completely agree with such a metaphorical name. The green forests are the emerald of my country, the sand of dunes and the amber shores are its gold.

I live in the western part of Lithuania right on the Baltic seacoast. My native town is Klaipeda. Although it's rather small and quite, it has a lot of incomparable places: different parks and public gardens, museums and theatres, squares and monuments. People, who see Klaipeda for the first time, are usually amazed. And those, who have lived here for a while, never forget it. I could call my country "a small part of paradise", and I really think so. More >

On Sandy Beaches Of The Baltic Sea
On Sandy Beaches Of The Baltic Sea
How Beautiful Is My Little Country
by Gagarina Alina (15)

How beautiful is my little country Lithuania like a drop of amber. On this amber coast of the Baltic Sea in sandy dunes between secular pine-trees there are small and big children's holiday camps. Children from all Lithuania come here to have a rest. The sea, the sun and sandy beaches.

The God of sea Neptune turns up from the bottom of the Baltic Sea to look at beautiful sandy castles on the coastline, which are made by children's hands. Even the Mermaid in Copenhagen can hear ringing voices of singing children on the beach of the Baltic Sea near blazing night fires.

I am proud of this spectacular place and love it very much because it belongs to my native town Klaipeda. Children who come here can have a good rest, improve their health and make many new friends. Friendly teachers encourage children to love nature and to open their mind to everyone. More >

Curonian Lagoon
Curonian Lagoon
Somewhere In My Native Country
by Lyuda (16)

The country, where I live, is situated near the Baltic sea. It is Lithuania. I live almost near the sea and much closer to the Curonian Lagoon. It takes me less than an hour to get there. The views of the sea and the lagoon are very beautiful, especially during the sunset and sunrise.

The first thing I like in my country is that it is situated near the sea. It is especially big fun near the seashore in summer and in winter, it amazes by its beauty. The second thing I like in my country is that there are such wonderful resorts as Nida, Palanga and Druskininkai. There are a lot of beautiful natural features, which are unique, and you won't find them in any other place of the world. The third thing is that it is the place I was born and all my family, friends and all my dear people live hear. The Country Of Hope
by Kate Kiricenko (16)

I live 300km away from the center of Europe in a small country called Lithuania. It is said somewhere, that this name the country received, because it rains a lot here and the Lithuanian word for rain perhaps had a similar meaning in the past. Lithuania is separated into 4 lands: Dzukija, Zemaitija, Aukshtaitija, Suvalkija. I live in Zemaitija land in the East in a port-town Klaipeda.

I live in a democratic country where we have freedom and right to get education and medical service. Lithuanian citizens don't have to get visa to enter European countries.National minorities have the same rights as the native people. More >

The Heavenly Corner
by Tatjana (16)

Everyone, who will visit this marvelous country, can deservingly evaluate all its beauty and attraction, because there are a lot of sights, which Lithuania is famous for. So, I want to tell you a little bit about one of the most magnificent health-resorts- Palanga.

The soft silk, the sea, the dunes, pine forests, and gorgeous beaches stretching for 20 km attract holidaymakers. I find it so pleasant to spend hours under a straw umbrella looking at crashing waves of the Baltic Sea, which lined the beach, and feel light pleasant smell of suntan oil, which fills the air like mist, which covers everything in a rainy, cold day. You can see a lot of people lying on the hot, clean sand reading their magazines. In the evening you can meet a great number of visitors walking along the bridge. More >

My Homeland Lithuania
by Chernobrivets Lera (15)

I like our Curonian Spit very much.To get to this place, to see its beauty it is necessary to take a ferry across Curonian Lagoon.I always admire the most beautiful and interesting place of Lithuania Trakai Castle, which in ancient times was called The TOWN OF WATER.

I like the central settlement in Neringa-Nida and especially I like Urbas Hill(50m, which was the first dune to be planted with trees and shrubs. If you climb the top of Urbas Hill you can get a broad panorama of the spit. Our Curonian Spit is a very beautiful place not only in summer, but in all seasons. I enjoy walking along the seashore and breathing fresh sea air. More >
