Information about the school
Malsis is a family school set in its own grounds of forty acres in the Craven District of North Yorkshire in an area of rare beauty near Skipton, Ilkley and the Dales but also within easy reach of the towns of the North of England, 15 miles from Leeds Bradford Airport and only 15 miles from the M65 motorway. There is a January and April intake in addition to September. About half the children board and last term we sent to the following Senior Schools: Eton, Harrow, Shrewsbury, Uppingham, Sedbergh, Rugby, Giggleswick, Ampleforth, Radley, Glenalmond, Loretto and Stonyhurst (you can access these schools' websites from the 'Parent Zone').
The pastoral system is centred on the Housemaster, Form teacher and Tutor and we teach children about courtesy and appreciation of values (spiritual and social); we try to discover any talent and develop it to the full; we teach children about kindness, humour and honour. There is a team of eighteen teachers, four matrons and ten visiting music staff. Mr and Mrs Lush live, with their family, in the middle of the school and are very much the "parents" of the school.
All the main subjects are taught with Greek and Spanish on offer. Drama, Art, Design and Technology, Information Technology and Music are part of the timetable. 94 Scholarships have been won since 1988 to 26 different Senior Schools. There is particular emphasis on Art, Music, Poetry and Drama with 11 Art Scholarships and 18 Music awards in the last decade. Reading and handwriting are central to the children's education at Malsis, with reading periods every day. The main Choir leads the Chapel Services and sings in the surrounding area. The school attends local music festivals and children take part in mini concerts, recitals and a major termly concert. Many music groups meet weekly , including a Concert Band, meet each week. Groups visit local theatres, concert halls and places of interest.

Malsis has an excellent record in sport, regularly winning trophies far and near but more than that, nearly all the children play in a team, all children being coached games whatever ability, by a team of ten staff. Rugby, Cricket, Cross Country, Hockey, Netball, Swimming, Athletics, Rounders, Soccer and Tennis are the main sports. The school grounds include fifteen acres of pitches, an astroturf pitch, a nine hole golf course, a small grass athletics track, four all-weather tennis courts, a beck, woods and a lake.
Malsis is generously equipped to meet the modern world of education: light, specialist teaching rooms including two Science Laboratories, Art Department, Design and Technology Centre, IT Centre, 18 room Music school, Sports Hall, Gymnasium, Indoor Swimming pool, Astro all-weather pitch, an indoor Shooting Range, Theatre and a lovely Chapel. Well-equipped games rooms offer snooker, table-tennis, bar football and a host of board games.
The staff have great fun here, the challenge of youth is ever present. A varied activity programme (break, evening and weekend) is available each week with during clubs on offer including: drama, sailing, canoeing, fencing, judo, shooting, archery, ballet, sewing, camping, riding, fishing, cooking, fly tying, Italian, bridge chess and visiting old folks. For a full programme, see the section 'Clubs Activities'. Yes, we have plenty of buildings and equipment, but a boarding and day preparatory school is much more: to learn to help others and to enjoy ourselves, these are top priorities.
Garden House, our pre-preparatory department, opened in 1996 for boys and girls aged from three to seven years. It is situated in the grounds in its own self-contained accommodation.
