1st XV
|
|
The 1st XV had a tough season with a lot of players new to senior rugby. The squad worked very hard throughout and after early defeats began to find its feet and score some points. Improvements in team defence led to the first victory against Mowden Hall, 20 - 15. After close defeat, that could have gone either way, against Ampleforth and Packwood, the team finished on a high with two victories in two days against Cundall Manor (17 - 10) and Fettes (22 - 0).

The team was well led by Charlie Pilkington who was also player of the year. He was well supported by Oliver Schofield and Jon Wells who both had superb seasons. Young player of the year was Declan Walkden who, along with the fast developing Ryan Wells, William Leigh-Bramwell and James Holdsworth can look forward to next season. Most improved player and top scorer with 11 tries in 15-a-side games was Diego Heredia.

1st VII
|
The sevens team played in four tournaments and continually improved throughout the season. The first two tournaments were very much learning experiences with 3 wins and a draw out of 9 games. At a cold Cundall Manor the team played well and reached the knockout stages. The final tournament at St. Mary’s Hall saw us lose in the quarterfinals, having finished second in the group which included a victory over Sedbergh.

2nd XV
|
The season started with a squad of inexperienced but enthusiastic boys, many of whom had never represented the school at rugby before and some who had never even played the game.
October proved to be a difficult month where we suffered three heavy defeats to Catteral Hall, Sedbergh Junior School and St Mary’s Hall but as each game went by, the structure of the team became more secure and each individual began to learn what was expected of them within the team.
A hugely exciting and eventful game against Mowden Hall at the beginning of November saw another defeat but also a huge rise in confidence and belief. The final score was 34-38 but Malsis scored 6 tries and only lost the game in the final minute.
Our next opponents were St Martin’s Ampleforth and the confidence found in the last game carried on. We were worthy winners, scoring four tries, in a 20-5 victory. This game unfortunately proved to be the high point of the team as we were comfortably defeated at Packwood after a long journey left us suffering from ‘Jet-lag’ and therefore putting in a poor performance.
The last two games of the season were cancelled due to illness but looking back over the season it was an eventful journey where many of the boys matured and found strengths that they never knew they had. Even on those days where we were the second best side on the field there was tremendous team spirit and most of the boys enjoyed the rugby most of the time.

Under 9
|
The season started well for the Under 9 team, recording a number of well-earned victories. Skipton RUFC and Wharfedale RUFC hosted us with the usual warmth that we have enjoyed over the past few years and the team learned a good deal during these early games.
The second half of the season was a little frustrating, thanks mainly to the weather. Fixtures against Otley and Wharfedale were cancelled and we battled against the rain and some big players at the Cundall Manor Festival.
Our forward players, James Bruce, Jordan Kapadia and Edward Linkogel have dominated many games in both attack and defence. The backs have improved beyond recognition during the season with Harry Phillipson at scrum half, Marcus Farnworth and latterly James Cutter at fly half and Harry Dennis, Andrew Lush, Alex Procter and Adam Waring all representing the school on a regular basis. We also saw promising performances from Nick Staton, Joshua Barrett and Ben Jolly.
With only 9 players on the pitch, everyone has to do their job or gaps quickly open up. Our defence was only breached on a few occasions thanks to the determination and dedication of all these players, many of whom will play U9 again next season!
