Publications and websites
There are lots of publications and useful websites which might help you to search out the best reading material from the plethora of books flooding the market:

Book for Keeps - the children’s book magazine; 6, Brightfield Road, London. SE12 8QF

http://www.booktrusted.com
A superb site offering reviews and recommendations of children’s books, including lists for specific age groups. Highly recommended!

http://books.guardian.co.uk/childrenslibrary/story/0,6194,149014,00.html
An excellent site offering reviews of classic children’s books as well as all the latest releases.

http://www.achuka.co.uk
Favours older children’s fiction; has links with Amazon.

http://www.readingmatters.co.uk
Written by a parent, this is an accessible way for students in key stages 2 to 4 to find fiction books to read. Users can find a book tailored to their tastes with the 'Bookchooser'. Good for “intelligent young readers”!

http://www.mrsmad.com
During the 1980s, Radio One hosted an execrable character called Mr Mad; thankfully, this site has nothing to do with him. Readers can send in their own book reviews, play Hangman, contribute to a story, read old jokes and get recommmendations.

Of all the English skills we can teach our children, the most rewarding, long-lasting and endlessly delightful is that of reading and the love of books, and I hope that as parents you might enjoy dipping into some of the books yourself and sharing the reading experience. I am sure that with your help and support, that the magic and enjoyment of reading will continue to be cultivated at Malsis.

Happy Reading!
