We are currently updating our web site to make it more user friendly it will be available in September.
The intention of the website is to demonstrate the range of children's work and extra curricular activities available. It is also essentially a forum to present and celebrate the children's range of achievements. We all hope you all enjoy discovering more about the wide range of activities which are on offer at our school. For the all the most recent information please refer to the news section on the left hand side.I will endeavour to add to this weekly.Children will receive regular newsletters, also we will forward e-mail newsletters to any parent or carer.
At St.Michaels we aim to provide a caring environment,an environment which is dependent upon trust, respect and co-operation.We fully support the principles of "Every Child Matters" with five key outcomes :
Be healthy
Stay safe,
Enjoy and achieve,
Make a positive contribution
Achieve economic well being.
This document first published in 2003 proposes reshaping children's services. These will be our school's priorities and will underpin all our work at school.
To successfully achieve this, the school recognises the vital importance of regular liaison between Home and School. This web site is therefore designed to guide and advise parents, carers, relatives and the community about our school.I am greatly encouraged that these values and ethos have been recognised in our three very successful Ofsted and Church inspections,in 1998,2002 and 2006.Our most recent Inspection in November 2006 identified the school as "outstanding" in each area inspected !
I hope you will find time to read the reports on the internet www.ofsted.gov.uk and our summary reports on our web site.If you would like a full copy from school, please don't hesitate to contact the office or any member of staff.
The following week, the school received a Church inspection and the inspector's report confirmed that "leadership and management" and the "distictinctiveness of a Church school" was also considered outstanding.
The school has gained recognition for high standards by achieving National School Achievement Awards for 3 consecutive years in 2000,2001 and 2002.Following analysis by the Department of Education and Skills of both our 2004 and 2005 Key Stage 2 SATs results, the school was placed in the top 5% of schools, nationally. The value added highlights the progress and improvement children at St.Michaels make.In 2006 our Key Stage 2 results were also very good.A full breakdown of SATs scores can be found on the school news section.
In July 2004, the LEA considered our school to "be highly effective" and placed it in the lowest band category of schools requiring support. The school has also gained a distinction for its role in extending out of hours learning to our community. In 2002 and 2007 the school achieved Healthy School status as part of our commitment to the health and welfare of our pupils. In 1999, the school was one of the first in the country to be designated FA Charter status due to the involvement of soccer both at school and in the community.More recently in 2007 the school achieved Activemark status as recognition for promoting sporting provision within school.
The school participates in a wide range of sporting activities. Some of these are led by our staff while others are provided by professional coaches. We have been County winners at tennis and we have won a wide collection of trophies over the many years. We are currently Caldew area champions at soccer, athletics ,cross country and rounders.Runners up at tag rugby. We are very proud of our sporting tradition and keen to promote sporting achievements at school.
At our school we pride ourselves with the close links with our local community .Our school continues to be at the forefront of ICT provision. We are a community development centre and provide a range of courses for adult learners. From January 2003 the Centre will become a learn direct centre offering a comprehensive range of courses. In May 2005, the Centre withdrew from the umbrella of adult learning managed by a large Secondary school. The time was right and therefore we propose to provide a range of adult and family learning courses which reflects the needs of our community. For the range of planned courses for the term please contact the office.
I would like also to extend a very warm welcome to all visitors to our site from anywhere in the world. We are particularly anxious to hear from other schools who may be interested in developing close links. The school is registered on the British Council Windows of the world website. This has now been integrated within the DFeS /British Council www.globalgateway.org.uk web site.
Please use the buttons on the left to navigate to the area that interests you.I would welcome any feedback you have on the site, and would welcome any suggestions for improvement.
Mr.Stephen Fraser
