FRIENDS OF WALKER SCHOOL
What is the Friends of Walker School?

A registered charity with the primary aim to raise funds and support Walker School.

Who is Involved?

Anyone who has a direct link to the school. Teachers and staff, parents, grandparents, children etc. We are all members of the Friends Association.

What is the purpose of the Friends of Walker?

The main focus is fundraising to help support the school. The funds raised are channelled back into projects within the school with the teacher’s direction. Equally the organisation is an important framework to foster the social fabric of the school.

How does this happen?

The Friends committee is the focal point for the fund raising. The committee is typically made up of at least one person from each class plus a representative from the school, predominantly the head teacher. The committee meets about once a month to discuss the fund raising timetable. We allocate events to a team of people who will then ask for help when needed. The committee looks to organise and run a number of events throughout the year but is only the central point. All the school needs to get involved to make the whole a success.

What can I do?

To make a success of the events we need all sorts of input. Hopefully everyone in the school will support all the events in some way - baking cakes for the bazaar and Walkerbout, manning a stall, buying tickets for discos etc. But if you can spare a little more time to get involved you will really find it rewarding. Come along to the committee meetings, and add your views and comments to the events proposed. Help organise one of the events with a team of people or rally your own group of parents to get a little more involved. Dates and times of the meeting can be found on the website.
