WWE Raw Deal

Raw Deal didn't look like much when it debuted in 2000 to a card game market reeling from the Pokeboom. Recieved wisdom taught us that a card game based on men in brightly coloured spandex would sink like a stone. How wrong we were. Raw Deal might have won over our hearts and minds, and trounced WoTC's WWC rival, but nothing could stop the wrath of the World Wide Fund for Nature, who succeeded in forcing a name change from WWF to WWE. Shame - I was looking forward to the expansion with the penguins, lions and monkeys in it!
Mechanics: Pick your favourite superstar wrestler and layeth down the smack. Each has their own unique hand size, Superstar value and ability. Cards have a Fortitude required to play, a Damage rating and a chunk of game effects. When you take damage, you flip cards over from your Arsenal, depleting your deck. But just like real wrestling, your opponent may be packing just the right countermove to knock you upside your head.
How You Win: If your opponent can't overturn a card from their Arsenal when required, you score a Pin victory. If your opponent decks out, you score a Count Out victory.
Deck Archetypes: Each wrestler has his or her own unique style and signature cards. Time was, Raw Deal was filled with signature moves and testosterone, but new decks might feature wrastlin' ladies and just as many pre-match events as busting moves.
Organised Play: Occasional weekend tournaments.
Website: Comic Images very own Raw Deal Website is most definitely the place to start. Then head on over to Squared Circle, the UK's very own WWE Raw Deal site. And don't worry about all those feuds that seem to be going on; trash talking's part of Raw Deal's charm.
Fan Boy Three Trivia: Raw Deal's very own Card Commissioner is none other than Shadowfist supremo Zev Shlasinger.
Roleplaying Plug: Isn't the WWE all about roleplaying? Check out the Comic Images WWE RPG when it releases later in the year
