Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon

The original spiky haired kid with a destiny and deck of magical cards took up where Pikachu and his Pokebuddies left off; the world's number one kids card game. Only this time, the kids were actually playing the game thanks to a bit of excellent cross marketing by Konami which saw the cartoon demonstrate the fundamentals of actual gameplay. Including the obligatory trash talking between Yugi and his opponent in every episode.

Mechanics: Yugioh cards are either Spells, Monsters or Traps, assembled in a 40+ card deck. Monsters have both attack and defence ratings, and if you exceed your opponent's defence you knock off some of their 8000 life points (beat that, Magic!)

How To Win: Reduce your opponent to zero life points. Or assemble all five pieces of Exodia. Or assemble all five parts of Oiuja Board and spell out D.E.A.T.H. in your trap zone. Or deck out your opponent (by reducing him to zero cards in his deck, not by whacking him over the head with a chair). Most matches play 2 out of 3 games to win.

Deck Archetypes: Yugi's deck packs all the power you need, but Kaiba's trap filled deck is the more fun to play. Discard decks are popular, while decks that rely on an Exodia victory must first pick up the pieces (each part is an ultra rare) making it too expensive to be really practical. It's cool though when you pull it off.

Organised Play: If Yugi sustains his momentum, expect a few Sunday tournaments in store. Up until recently only European cards were permitted in tournaments, but fortunately that rule has now been relaxed; the thought of having to turn kids away because they built their deck out of illegal cards was a big stumbling block in running OP.
