Miniatures gaming has been with us since before D&D was a glimmer in Gygax's eye, before Magic was more than something Paul Daniels performed with the aid of the lovely Debbie McGee, before Catan had even been discovered let alone opened up for serious settling.
Miniatures technology has come on in leaps and bounds during the last twenty five years. You can still learn to paint them the old fashioned way of course, but many of todays lil' guys come pre-painted for instant gaming gratification.
