I remember when Shadowrun was first released, and how excited we all were about a cyberpunk RPG from the people who had released Battletech. Then we heard about the Elves, dwarves, dragons and magic. Shadowrun was the first true fusion game, its disparate elements blending together to create something truly unique and original. It's fantasy races allowed the designers to explore themes of discrimination and nationalism that showed Shadowrun to be a game years ahead of its time. Plus you got to shoot people with really big guns AND fireballs. Most of the original FASA stocks are long out of print; fortunately FanPro have kept the legacy alive.
Fan Boy Three Tip: Start with the core game (FAN25000) and the Companion (FAN10656). Shadows of North America/Europe (FAN10655/668) gives a world overview, State of the Art 2063 (FAN10664) gives you tech while Magic in the Shadows (FAN10658) fills in the spellslinging.
