Step Three - Write the alphabet

  • With the cut out triangle to the LEFT, write the first letter of the alphabet onto the big disk, in the space left by the cut out triangle.

  • Rotate the big disk and write the next letter of the alphabet.

  • Keep going turning the big disk and writing more letters till you have the whole alphabet written around the edge of the big disk.

NOTE - you must leave a finger space betwen the edge of the disk and the letter.

  • If you have space, also add these sounds:

ch cl cr pr pl st sh sc tr th gr gl br bl

Step Four - Add Your Postits

  • Finally, stick your stack of post-it stickers onto the front of your small disk so that it lines up with the triangular slot.

Step Five - Decorate

Now you can decorate it by colouring it in or sticking stuff on. Let your imagination run wild.

How to Use your Rhyme Machine
Decide on a word that you want to find rhymes for.

Write this word nice and big across the top of the post-it

Decide which is the FIRST sound of this word, then fold the edge of the post-it over, so that it covers up the first sound.

Hold the small disk with one hand.
Spin the big disk with the other hand.

As you spin the big disk, you will get different start sounds for your word.

For Example:

My word is Book

I write Book on my post it

Then I fold the post-it over so all I can see is: ook
I spin the spinner and get new letters for the start of my word.

These are the new words I write down:

  • cook
  • hook
  • look
  • nook
  • rook
  • took
  • crook
  • shook
  • brook

If it's a word you like, write it onto the post-it underneath your original word.

Spin the spinner again and again and you will soon have a whole list of words that rhyme with your original word.

When you have finished, remove the post it, then you can start all over again with a new word, or go off to write your poem!

HAVE FUN!!!
