|
Neil Taylor won a Scholarship to the Royal College of Music, where he studied with John Birch and Nicholas Danby. Whilst a student, he was organ scholar at St Albans Cathedral, and on graduating was appointed Assistant Organist at Norwich Cathedral. As well as premiering many new works in his time at Norwich, he made numerous broadcasts and recordings with the Cathedral Choir, and toured with them on the continent and in the USA. As well as directing the Cathedral Consort, he formed the Cathedral Girls’ Choir which completed its first CD recording and made a highly successful tour of Germany shortly after its inception.
He has been Organist and Director of Music at Sheffield Cathedral since 1997, where he is responsible for the Cathedral Choirs of boys, girls and men. Since his appointment, the Cathedral Choir has toured both at home and abroad (including Germany, Holland, France, Hungary and the USA) and broadcast frequently on BBC Radio 3. CD Recordings include Music for a Millennium, a Classic FM Magazine CD of the Year Award Winner, and nine CD recordings with the Cathedral Choirs.
Neil has directed and assisted on choral courses as far afield as Aldeburgh, Mexico City and the Eton Choral Courses. As an organist, he has played at most of the major venues in the UK. He became Musical Director of St George’s Singers in 2006, and appears frequently as Musical Director and Organist on BBC Radio 4’s Daily Service.
In his spare time he enjoys reading and walking. A keen cook, he is also an enthusiast of real ales and good wines.

ASSISTANT MUSICAL DIRECTOR - CALUM FRASER

|
Calum Fraser graduated with a degree in music from The University of Manchester in 2010, before which he was a gap student at St. Paul's Cathedral School. He has recently embarked upon postgraduate study at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where he is studying for an MA in choral conducting with Simon Halsey and Adrian Partington. Calum is the Assistant Musical Director of St. George's Singers and has recently been appointed as Musical Director of The Cheshire Consort. He previously directed Ad Solem - The University of Manchester Chamber Choir, with whom he led a tour to Poland and released his first CD on the SIM Records label. He founded The Martin Harris Singers in 2007 and is currently director and co-founder of Caledonian Voices. Calum is committed to the performance of new music and has directed many first performances, as well as a highly acclaimed performance of Ecce Manus Tradentis with Vaganza, at which the composer, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, was in attendance. Calum has also worked regularly with The University of Manchester Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, where successful performances under his direction have included Mozart's Requiem and Copland's Appalachian Spring. Calum has recently finished working as Chorus Master for Die Fledermaus (RWCMD).
Also a flautist and a singer, Calum was principal flute with The National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and a bass soloist with The National Youth Choir of Scotland. He has also performed with Camerata Scotland and NYOS Futures, chamber ensembles of The National Youth Orchestras. In 2007, Calum won the Edinburgh Festival Concerto Competition playing Malcolm Arnold's Second Flute Concerto accompanied by the Festival Orchestra, while in 2009, he performed Hindemith's Concerto for Winds and Harp with The University of Manchester Chamber Orchestra. Calum previously studied orchestral conducting with Mark Heron, as well as receiving tuition from George Hurst and Rodolfo Saglimbeni at the Canford conductors' course and with Richard Bonynge, Peter Broadbent and Eric Whitacre in recent masterclasses.

ACCOMPANIST - JEFFREY MAKINSON
|

|
Jeffrey Makinson is Sub-Organist of Manchester Cathedral, Tutor in Organ Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music and Manchester University and Tutor in Pianoforte at Chetham’s School of Music.
He received his musical training at the Royal Northern College of Music and at Manchester University. He subsequently became Organ Scholar of York Minster from 1992-1994, before spending five years as Assistant Organist at Lincoln Minster. He took up his post in Manchester in 1999 and is busy as a recitalist, accompanist, conductor, teacher and adjudicator in the city and throughout the country.
As part of his duties at Manchester Cathedral, Jeffrey accompanies the critically acclaimed Cathedral Choir for most of the choral services, assists the Organist & Master of the Choristers with the training and direction of the choir and directs the Cathedral Voluntary Choir.
As a recitalist, Jeffrey has performed throughout the country, at many of the major British cathedrals, abbeys, collegiate chapels, churches and concert halls, including numerous recitals at Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, St. Paul’s Cathedral and King’s College, Cambridge. Jeffrey has also performed in numerous foreign countries including Czech Republic, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, and the USA.
Jeffrey has made numerous CD recordings, with the Albany, Delphian, Herald, Lammas, Naxos, Priory and Regent labels. He works extensively for the BBC, as regular musical director and organist for Radio 4 Daily Service. In addition, he has worked on programmes such as Songs of Praise, Chorister of the Year, Choral Evensong, Minstrels in the Gallery, Young Musician of the Year, Sunday Morning Worship and the Radio 4 Pilgrimage to Rome. Since 1998, he has been Organist in Residence at the Exon Singers Festival.
Jeffrey has a keen interest in promoting new music and has given first performances of works by numerous leading composers, including Mark Blatchly, Martin Bussey, Bob Chilcott, Naji Hakim, Grayston Ives, Francis Jackson, George Lloyd, Richard Lloyd, Philip Moore, Andrew Sallis, Howard Skempton and Philip Wilby.
