Governor Involvement

What do the Governors do?
The Governing Body of the school is the authority which shapes and leads the school's development.

It is responsibile for the strategic and organisational decision making of the school.

It decides the staffing establishment and structure, school policies and procedures, and the curriculum which is delivered.

Whilst the Head Teacher and Leadership Team are responsible for the day to day running of the school, it is the Governing Body which has the overall authority and responsibiity for the school.

Becoming a Governor
There are four categories of governor;
Community Governors (*4),
Local Authority Governors (*3),
Parent Governors (*6),
Staff Governors (*3)
.....and the Head Teacher.

When a Parent Governor vacancy arises, parents are asked to nominate candidates from the parent community.

Elections may be held and parents vote for their preferred candidate.

The successful parent is duly elected to the Governing Body for a period of four years term of office.

Other categories of Governor are elected or co-opted from the relevant community groups.

Being involved

Governors are involved in all sorts of ways in the school.

Involvements include regular termly meetings, various committees with a range of remits, attending school events such as assemblies, festivals and services.

They can also be involved in the wider life of the school through attending School Pupil Council meetings, helping with Super-learning days and assisting with Pupil Conferencing, examining the views of the children, to help governors make policy decisions.
