Golden Rules

We are gentle.
We are kind and helpful.
We listen.
We are honest.
We work hard.
We look after property.

House System

The winning house for session 2008-2009, awarded in June, was GARTHLAND. Well done.

On entering the school, each child is put into a house and wears a coloured badge to represent this house. The houses are Semple, McDowall, Garthland and Calder . Class points which are awarded to each child go towards house points. At the end of each week these points are totalled. Each month the winning house will be given an appropriate reward, e.g. an extra playtime.

House competitions are also organised throughout the year, e.g. Potted Sports, Design competition for Nativity Play Tickets.

Each school house has two captains, a boy and a girl. The captains are given responsibility in the school and at school events.

At the end of the year all house points are totalled and the house shield is awarded to the winning house.

We rely on parent's support to encourage children to take an active part in house activities.

Rewards

Children are rewarded with points for effort, tidiness, good work, being helpful, good behaviour and library points. If children earn sufficient points over the course of the week they will receive a merit badge or sticker. Merits are then counted and award certificates are given as follows:

10 Merits - Bronze Award
20 Merits - Silver Award
30 Merits - Gold Award

These acheivements, along with others from within or outwith school are celebrated at short weekly assemblies.

Sanctions

We have clear, stepped sanctions which are used when the Golden Rules are broken. These give children the opportunity to reflect on and improve their behaviour.
Detentions are used when behaviour does not improve. Parents are informed of this by letter.
