Poetry of the Trees 2012
National Poet, Philip Wells has written this poem especially for the Spirit of the Trees 2012 Project. We hope you like it. Why not send us your own?

One Spirit We All Share
"Grow as strong as a tree!"
The children all roar.
"Let this planet breathe free!"
And the green leaves applaud.

"Reach down to your roots:
We all share the same earth.
Send your shoots to the sky,
Find out what you're worth!

Stretch out your fingers
Like a branch to the sun;
Reach out, feel the freedom,
Lift your legs, let them run!

Breathe in the Spirit
Of the Games of the World -
We are runners and jumpers,
We can sprint, leap and hurl

And dance in the sunshine,
Or rain-stormy weather -
Our leaves in the wind,
Our branches sway together:

For though we're oaks and palms and baobabs,
We breathe a single air -
Though we grow in so many different ways,
One Spirit we all share."
