How we help
|
After the Educational Psychologist has consulted with the teacher and parent/carer, everyone decides together what needs to happen next. The Educational Psychologist may help the teacher to identify new strategies and interventions to try in class, they might decide more asessment and information gathering is needed, they might decide to offer training for all the teachers, or they might request extra support for a particular child. Every situation is different. The Educational Psychologist may never meet the child because consulting with the adults who know the situation best may be all that is needed to bring about positive change.
There are many different kinds of intervention that can be used, from behaviour management and anti-bullying programmes to classroom support and extra learning materials. Sometimes people need extra help all the time in school and sometimes only for a few sessions.

|
The strategies or interventions will be agreed with the adults involved. The parents/carers and school will be given support on how to put them in place, and how to support the child/young person.
Follow up work will be done to see how much the strategies are helping the child/young person, and if there are new or different strategies that might be better.
