Equal Opportunities and Social Justice.

SPIRITUAL, SOCIAL, MORAL and CULTURAL VALUES

Parents may request that their children be permitted to be absent in order to celebrate recognised religious events. Advance notice should be provided to the school when children will be absent from the school. Appropriate requests will be granted and the pupil noted as an authorised absentee in the register.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES & SOCIAL JUSTICE

At Hallside we are committed to equality of opportunity in access to and provision for all aspects of each child’s education and development. We are conscious that problems can arise from issues of gender, religion, race, ethnic origin, physical disadvantage, learning difficulty, financial hardship, single parenthood or lack of space to study. The Education Department recognises that education is the single most important tool to enable individuals to break out of the poverty trap, or from repressive circumstances where they exist, and we at Hallside will do everything in our power to facilitate these moves towards increased social justice.

REPORTING OF RACIST INCIDENTS

Schools take seriously any reported racist incidents. Within the school’s approach to promoting positive discipline a record of all racist incidents is maintained and each incident fully investigated.

Schools are required to notify the local authority of all racist incidents.
