Technological Studies
Technological Studies is the study of engineering and problem solving principles. At Standard Grade pupils study a wide range of topics from electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, to programmable control. At Higher level, this is extended to included Structures and Materials.

Pupils will become familiar with using computer software, practical equipment, and solving challenging mathematical problems.

Please note, entry to Standard Grade Technological Studies requires pupils to be sitting Credit and General level mathematics, prior to selecting the course.

This page is broken into two resource sections:
1. Standard Grade TS
2. Higher Grade TS
1. S Grade TS - useful websites
http://www.technologystudent.com/ - Provides a great wealth of explanations about topics such as Electronics, Gears and pulleys and Forces and Moments.

http://www.designandtech.com/ - Look under the "Electronics" or "Systems and Control" tabs for info useful to Tech Studies. Also some useful Mechanisms items under the "Resistant Materials" tab, if you scroll down.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/ - Gives good explanations of how many interesting everyday items work from helicoptors, and microprocessors, to fridges and snow makers.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/design/ - Has a good "Electronics" section

http://www.techyman.co.uk/ - If you click on "Standard Grade", you can then try out some quizes for Pneumatics, Energy, Programmable Control, and Mechanisms.

http://www.technologylinks.org/tlinks/index.htm - A massive collection of useful links for all sorts of topics. Also, some good "online textbooks".

http://www.doctronics.co.uk/design.htm - Some good electronics info on the basics of electronics (ie explains current, voltage, voltage dividers and a few other things quite well)

http://www.dtonline.org/apps/menu/app?1&0 - "Electronics", "Pneumatics", and "Mechanisms", are all useful revsion pages.

1.1 S Grade TS - Class books & Databooklet [Databook only at moment]
This file only contains the Standard Grade TS databooklet at the moment. Will contain electronic versions of the course notes as soon as possible. Expect to see them by April 2006.
