Alnwick Castle
In school we greatly value the help given by parents in hearing their children read and we have a certificate system that rewards the children the more they read at home.
This year we decided to extend the reward. Two children from every class from Y1 to Y6 were offered the chance to go to Alnwick Water Gardens and Castle absolutely free because they had the most home reading signatures in their Reading Diaries.

Wet and wetter!

We got wet!
The trip was fantastic. We got wet, really wet! in the sculpture garden. We got lost in the maze, but found our way out. And when we visited the castle we had our photos taken with Albus Dumbledore and some of us had owls and hawks fly to our hands!

We met Dumbledore

Everyone, including the teachers, wants to go on the next Readers' Trip. And that is the great thing: we intend that this is only the first Reader's Trip, that it becomes a yearly reward to thank children and parents for all of their hard work.
The trip is linked to our Home Reading Certificate scheme. To see our certificates click on Dumbledore and just like magic you will be transported.

What We Thought 1
I liked the waterfall in the gardens because it looked pretty and it was fun when you got wet. Knights Quest in the catle was fun, the activities were good fun.
I liked the castle where you looked in the hole and you could see a person on the toilet because they set off stink bombs and it stunk. And I got a surprise when the water sculpture soaked me. The gardens were really nice and beautiful.

What We Thought 2
When we went to Alnwick Castle we saw the birds of prey and we were able to stroke some of them and see them perform, it was really good. In the gardens I really liked the fountain that shot water out of the top and got me wet. And I liked the sculpture where I had to squeeze through without getting wet.
I liked it when we went in the castle and did Knight's Quest. The best bit was when we had to build the castle and we ran out of time and it exploded. I liked doing the maze and trying to find the middle.

What We Thought 3
I liked it when the water shot up from the sculpture and I got wet. I liked the owl that flew right to the top of the castle and wouldn't come back. I also liked it when I saw Dumbledore.
