Healthy Schools Award
Samson and Delilah
On Friday 13th March (2009) the school council attended the Healthy Schools Award presentation at the Stadium of Light. The school has worked very hard over the past 2 years to achieve Healthy Schools status according to criteria under 4 headings; PSHE, healthy eating, physical activity and emotional health and well being.
The children had a fun morning out and were presented their award by the Sunderland mascots Samson and Delilah.
Awards galore!
The children were very excited to receive balloons, a framed certificate, a plaque for the main entrance and a cheque for £100! The children also gave a presentation about what they had done as part of the school council. They were very brave standing on the stage in front of so many other Primary Schools but some of them certainly didn't need the microphones they were given! We are now thinking about what to spend the money on.
A great day out!
We had the best morning as we watched cheer leaders, rappers and a Primary School rock band! We got to meet other schools and had a chance to meet other schools who have achieved their healthy schools status. We also had a delicious (and healthy) lunch which was so nice that some of us had to have second helpings. The chocolate cake was made from beetroot - believe it or not!
Comic Relief
Seeing as though we were missing some of the fun of Red Nose Day, a very kind and talented dinner lady made us a cake to celebrate. It featured the 3 red nose designs and looked very appetising. Unfortunately we didn't get to have any as we had to hurry back to school.
We are very happy to be a healthy school and are looking forward to working towrds our eco schools status and achieving our gold smoke free school award.
