4. Add text to your page
Now you have chosen your page layout, you can now add your text. The guidance below is for the Flexible Grid layout. The same general principles apply to all layouts, but for further information on the other layouts available, see Templates
First, if you have not already done so, complete the following:
- Page Heading - appears at the top of the page
- Navigation Label - this appears on your navigation menu, so keep it short
- Search Keywords - search engines use this when listing your site.
Note: You need to enter a page navigation button label to make sure you and your visitors know what the page is about, but everything else is optional.
Next, select the number of columns and rows you would like. You can change this later.
Then add your text:
Subheading - appears at the top of each subsection of your page
Body text - type in, or cut and paste your text here. You can also add HTML or Java coding if you wish. See Tools for more information on formatting text.
Each text box has a pull down menu to it's right which allows you to set the justification of that block of text: left, right or centred. The Global setting is the one chosen in the Edit Style section.
When you have finished, click Save & View to see how your page looks. Remember, unless you click Save & View, or Save Page, none of your changes will be saved or will appear on the site. The saved page is not visible to the public until you click in the "Publish" box at the top of the Edit area, so everything you do until then is private - so you can experiment in safety!
Mistakes?
Remember, if you make a mistake - you can always come back and change it - just click Edit Page to make more changes.
Copy and Paste pages
To experiment with your page without losing your original design, or perhaps to copy a prepared layout for repeated use, create a copy to work on. You can use this method to update a page without de-publishing the original until the updated page is ready. To copy a page, click the "copy" icon (top left, just above the Home or Welcome navigation button), then click OK to the warning message, then click on a spare "untitled" navigation button to choose a spare target page, then click the "paste" icon (next to the copy icon), again click OK to the warning message. You now have a copy of the original page.
