From the Head...

Another term is quickly passing with the children taking part in numerous interesting activities to enhance their learning.

A recent conference I attended emphasized the importance of children enjoying their learning and being 'happy'. This is one of the most important deciding factors in them reaching high levels of attainment and achievement.

I am pleased to say that we have always believed this at the New Forest School - our children certainly appear to enjoy their learning and our results speak for themselves. We have once again received a congratulatory letter from the Wiltshire Director of Education for being one of the top two performing schools in the county for attainment and progress.

Over this past half term the children have discovered treasures through archaeological digging (items buried in sand trays by the teachers!), School Brunch with an International Focus, attendance at an Astronomy Day with a leading astronomer who has worked at the Johnson Space Centre in Texas, an Adventure Team Building at Fairthorne Manor, being interviewed on the local radio for their bird watching, inter-school chess championship, Key Stage 1 drama club, Key Stage 1 art club ... and so much more!

On the sports front our fledgling school netball team have won all inter-school games thus winning the local schools' league (despite the fact that this is the first time they have played together as a team) and in Music we are looking forward to a lovely Piano Recital where the children will perform in front of their parents. Those children who took LAMDA exams (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) have all passed with the majority gaining merits and distinctions.

We have had a number of parents visiting the school to lead sessions on other countries and cultures of the world. I'd like to thank them for the preparation they put into these talks - the children have gained a lot from them.

All of these activities take great effort and determination but through them children foster the love of learning, striving for success whatever their ability.

Enjoyable teaching = happy learners = high standards of achievement!

The School Staff would like to thank parents for collecting their children early for the past two weeks to allow them to carry out their First Aid Training. Your cooperation has been greatly appreciated - hopefully all staff have 'passed' and regained their 3 year certificate.

Have a lovely Half Term break with your families - we look forward to seeing you on the 28th February.
