6. Set the design style of your site
Click on the Edit Style button to set your overall design style. You will find controls for all the design elements of your site:
  • choose font style, size and colour
  • set background colours for all parts of the screen
  • upload your own images for logos, site title, site footer, navigation base and page background
Select from the options available, and then click Save & View to see how your site looks. You can return to the Edit Style area to make changes as often as you wish.

Site - Page Width
This function allows you to set how wide you wish your website to appear - people view websites on different sized computer screens, so you can choose a size best suited to your audience. Choose from the following:
  • screen width (flexible) - your web pages will scale to any size the user chooses.
  • banner width - your site will be as wide as your top banner - useful if you have a particular visual effect you wish to achieve.
  • 600 pixels - compatible with the smallest screens
  • 800 pixels
  • 1024 pixels

Text styles
You can choose the size, font and colour of text for these areas on each page:
  • headings
  • body text
  • navigation menu (sections)
  • navigation menu (pages)
  • image captions

You can choose for text to be bold, italic or underlined, and set the alignment of these text types. These choices will be applied to all pages within your site.

If you are using text of any colour other than black, it is worth checking how the text displays against any chosen background colour or image. Some text colours can be difficult to read, especially at smaller sizes. Avoid clashing colours and these can cause visual problems for some people. Also avoid grey text on a dark background as this can be a strain to read.

Design - Background images
You can load background images in these areas:

Navigation Menu
Use this section to choose what your navigation buttons will look like. The Menu Section Image refers to the section navigation buttons on the left hand side of your website. The Menu Page Image is for pages within each section. Alternatively, select your own images by using the Browse button to select images saved on your hard disk.

Top Navigation
You can choose to have additional navigation buttons along the top of your site. These can link to pages within you site, or to external pages. Use the pick box to select the number of navigation items you wish to have. Wait a few seconds for the page to update, then write in the URLs you wish to link to. This function is especially useful where you have several microsites that you wish to link together. Use the Browse button to load an image that you wish to use for your button. Navigation buttons
